June in Moscow and Saint Petersburg

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This summer was really intense, I had a chance to travel to Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Voronezh, Amsterdam, Madrid and Málaga. All the trips were special, each in its own way. And only now, when the sky is grey and it's pouring almost non stop, I've finally got to the pictures, sorted them out and chose the ones that I truly like.
I must confess that still there's no place for me like Russia, only there I genuinely feel at home and this summer I had an amazing opportunity to spend more than a month there. When I came to Moscow my mom and I decided to stay there for a couple of days, walking, sharing meals and having a great time. We also went to one of the best drama theatres there are: Moscow Art Theatre which I described in the June post. Since I knew I was going to attend some interesting events and travel I brought my camera along.
Одним из пунктов программы был парк Царицыно. Там я была впервые, и мне очень понравилось! Задуманный, как место отдыха и долгих прогулок императрицы Екатерины II и ее окружения, созданный Василием Баженовым и Матвеем Казаковым, знаменитыми архитекторами, сегодня этот парк - излюбленное место москвичей, где можно отдохнуть от городской суеты. Он действительно произвел на меня умиротворяющее впечатление, это такая отдушина, просторы, тенистые аллеи, спокойные прогулки. А вокруг парка кипит обычная Москва - широченные дороги, дикое движение, толпы людей, бегующих туда-сюда, даже в выходной день.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One of our destination points in Moscow was Tsarytsino park. It was my first time there and I really liked it! The estate was bought by Catherine the Great in the 18th century and she wanted to make a place to rest and go for long walks there. The arquitects Vasiliy Bashenov and Matvey Kazakov built a palace for the Empress (part of which you can see in the first picture) but she never lived there. Now this park is one of the most favorite places of the muscovites, it's calm and tranquile amidst all the fuss of this gigantic city with its vast roads, crazy traffic, crowds of people running from one place to another even on weekends.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Even though Moscow always takes me aback with its distances, crowds, traffic and height, there is nothing better than walking through the old Moscow, so rich, so soulful, so dear to me.
And in a couple of weeks my girlfriends and I took off to Saint Petersburg! I had been there 2 times before, once when I still was at school and for the second time during my university years in winter, and at that time our nothern capital was covered with snow and oh, so beautiful. But this time I was able to see this city in the summer and it feels like it opened its arms for me, I saw it from another angle and started to really love and understand it. The weather was moody and at that time we were not happy about it, but now looking back, I think it was the best weather for Saint Petersburg, the most balanced and correct if you know what I mean. Besides, it was just us, girls, traveling together and now, when everybody´s scattered over the globe, we rarely get the opportunity to do something like this.
And of course, I can speak for hours about the beauty of the city, it's not for an inch less picturesque than the european capitals! And while we are there, I don´t know why, maybe just because we are Russians, but we always have this feeling of honor, special connection with the richness, tragic and heroic past of this city, a fighter, a fairy tale, an open book of our history.
Около Казанского собора мы завтракали в последний раз в кафе "Буше" по соседству. Как там вкусно, какой кофе, какой вид прямо на собор! Просто волшебное впечатление на меня произвела эта милая кофейня. Как хотелось бы сидеть там снежным морозным утром и пить горячий капучино с фруктовой пироженкой...:)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Near the Kazan Cathedral we had a breakfast once in a lovely place called "Bushe". It's right beside it and I completely fell in love with everything there: the coziness, the views, the coffee and the food! It's magical. It would be so great to be sitting there one winter morning drinking a hot capuccino with a fruit tart...:)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I think you can come to Saint Petersburg only for walking, stepping on the old pavement, looking aroung and up, eating at the beautiful cafes, reading a book while sipping a hot tea... Maybe some day I will do just this but this time, of course, we tried to get the best out of every day, enriching our to-do list. One of the places that I had never visited before was the house-museum of Fedor Dostoevsky. Long time ago I realized that for me personally there is no better museum than a house or an apartment of some writer, poet, musician, talented and unique people. Visiting such places is like taking a dip into their world, taking a bit of it with you on your way out, starting to understand and appreciate them and their creations better. I absolutely loved Pushkin's apartment in Saint Peterburg, Bulgakov's house in Kiev, Gala and Dali's places in Catalonia, so now we had no doubt as whether to go to Dostoevsky´s and Anna Akhmatova´s houses.
В этом доме Достоевский жил со своей семьей с 1878 до дня своей смерти, 28 января 1881 года. Часы в его кабинете были остановлены на времени его смерти. Здесь был написан его последний роман “Братья Карамазовы”, “Пушкинская речь”.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In this house Dostoevsky lived with his family from 1878 to the day of his death, the 28th of Junuary 1881. This watch in his office was stopped on the exact time and day of his death. He wrote his last novel "The Brothers Karamazov" and "Pushkin Speech" there.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dostoevsky worked a lot at night, he went to bed late and woke up late as well, so his children used to leave small, simple and touching notes for him that he read once he was up. You can see them in his house. And in the living room, where the family gathered together and recieved guests, there is a tobacco package on the table with an inscription on it: "the 28th of January 1881 dad died"... These things, so personal, simple and moving make you closer to this person, make him o her real, not just a name that you´re used to see on the books or the portait that you remember since school. Such house-tours are the most valuable and heartful.
Одним из самых ярких вечеров стал поход в Мариинский театр на балет. Балет "Легенды о любви" был красивый, танцоры замечательные, но, конечно, ничто не поражает так, как само убранство театра! Кажется, что оказался в книге, в кино, что тебя должны окружать дворяне в роскошных нарядах, а в центральную ложу вот-вот войдет царь, и тогда поднимется занавес. Дамы будут обмахиваться веерами и плакать от восторга, а кавалеры - высматривать красавиц в вечерних платьях.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One of the brightest evenings that we had in Saint Petersburg was when we went to Mariinsky theatre to see a ballet "Legends of love". The ballet itself was beautiful, the dancers outstanding but nothing strikes you as much as the interiors of this building! It feels like you are in a book or a movie, like you should be surrounded by noblemen in luxurious clothes and in the central loge the Tsar will appear at any moment and then the curtain would rise. Ladies would agitate the fans and cry of delight and gentlemen would look out for the beauties in their evening gowns.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As I've said before we couldn't miss the opportunity to visit the house-museum of Anna Akhmatova, one of the very best poets who existed in our country. Anna Andreevna lived in this apartment in a wing of Fountain House from 1927 to 1952. The apartment belonged to her husband Nikolay Punin and she and his ex-wife lived there even when Akhmatova and Punin were together, and when they already were separated, in the same room as before. From the moment you step into the flat, it enveils you with its unique atmosphere making you feel and hear what people who lived there used to feel and hear. Everything in there is saved intact and in the Punin's office or Anna's room you can see pictures, drafts of poems, personal belongings, like, for example, an ash tray which Akhmatova used to burn her banned poems in after telling them to her close ones, so they were only kept in their memory. These were terrific years of Stalin's repressions and you can't help but think in all the fear, suffering and pain that these people had to endure. Leaving the house you bring all these feelings and thoughts along with you. I would like to say a special thank you to all the employees of Anna Andreevna's museum, for their love and respect for her memory, and their marvelous work.
Ну и безусловно нам захотелось еще разочек насладиться красотой Петергофа, хотя с погодой нам неповезло, лил дождь, что не позволило нам насладиться летними шутихами и фонтанами. Но даже в такую погоду Дворец и сады незабываемы.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We also wanted to visit one more time an amazing landmark - Peterhof. However, we weren't very lucky with the weather, it was raining a lot, so we couldn't enjoy the most amusing things for the visitors: fountains that were designed with a specific purpose of soaking the visitors. We were already soaking and it was cold, so there wasn't much sense in bathing some more, you know. But even in such weather you will not leave without being thoroughly impressed by the Palace, the Cascade, the gardens and the fountains.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
During our stay we also watched the bridges being drawn, went on long strolls till very late because it was the period of white nights (or midnight sun), we walked down the Nevsky Prospect, through the Summer Garden and  the Field of Mars, near Peter and Paul Fortress, in the park "mini Saint Petersburg", we went to the State Hermitage Museum and my favourite Russian Museum, to the modern art exhibition "Manifesta", to some strange dance festival and interactive exhibition "Van Gogh alive" which was stunning. So many places were seen and so many of them are still left for us to discover! So long, magical city!
Spring in Portugal. Part I: Lisbon
Привет, дорогие! Очень долго я готовила этот пост, выбирала фотографии, немного обрабатывала их, уменьшала, чтобы вам не пришлось ждать их загрузки как в древние времена, переводила..фух. Но надеюсь, труды того стоили и вам понравится!
Уже третий год мы продолжаем как-то саму собой появившуюся традицию, находиться в путешествии в мой день рождения. Апрель, весна, первое тепло и ласковое солнце, все благоволит таким поездкам. Хотя иногда и резко начинается весенний дождь, но он уже не такой как осенью, не противный, так что и его можно пережить (особенно на южных территориях). Два года назад мы были в стране Басков, в прошлом году на Канарских островах, ну а в этот раз решили поехать в Португалию! Фотографий у меня получилось очень много, поэтому я решила разбить отчет о путешествии на несколько постов. Ну и начнем, конечно, с волшебного Лиссабона!
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hi, darlings! I´ve been working on this post for a long time, choosing pictures, editing them a little, resizing, translating..puf. I hope that it was worth it and you´ll enjoy it!
So, it´s actually the third year that we spend traveling when I have my birthday. It´s a great timing when we already can enjoy spring and sun, and even though it can start raining, it´s also pretty bearable, unlike in autumn or winter (especially in the south). Two years ago we were in the Basque country, last year on Canary Islands and this time we went to Portugal. As usual I have a lot of pics from this trip, that´s why I decided to divide this vacation log in various posts. Let´s start with the magical Lisbon!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A nice train from Salamanca took us directly to Lisbon that received us with its spring sun, warmth, reasonable prices, shabby buildings with beautiful azulejos, and tons of men on the streets trying to make us buy some sunglasses, hashish and marijuana . (Although on some travel show they said that the drugs were fake and they were selling chalk and laurel instead but we haven´t actually tried them out, so I couldn´t tell you:) But the fact is they´re a real pain, can´t imagine how the locals bear them every day.
Лиссабон - как огромный антикварный магазин, в котором всё старинное и совсем не лощеное, потрепанное временем и владельцами, но неизбежно вобравшее в себя всю историю его жителей, их страсти и переживания, взлеты и падения. Как каждую вещичку в антикварном магазине, его хочется рассматривать и изучать, от него веет бывалым величием и загадкой, морской тоской и соленым воздухом.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lisbon is like a big antique store, where everything is old and not in the least glossy, battered a little by the time passed, but full of history of its citizens, their adventures, desires, ups and downs. Like every detail in an antique shop, you´ll want to take a good look at it and explore it, it has an atmosphere of former greatness and mystery, seaside melancholy and salty air.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A great sightseeing platform and a beautiful place, inside as well as outside, Santa Justa elevator. Yes, an elevator right there, in the middle of the street. :) To tell the truth, its presence there is not that surprising if you think about the fact that Lisbon is a city on hills, that´s why its citizens used to ride this elevator to get from Barrio Alto to La Baixa, from the top part of the town to the lower.
Ну и очаровательный, самый туристический трамвай Лиссабона, номер 28, который ходит по историческому центру города.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And of course, I couldn't miss this charming, the most touristic tram in Lisbon, number 28, that rides throughout the historical center of the city.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Another marvelous impression in Lisbon was made by this spacious, luminous square - Praça do Comércio. Full of air, sea breeze, freedom and adventurous spirit, it strikes you with its dimensions and a view of the "25th of April Bridge" unfolds in front of you. To those who don´t know and will feel as surprised as I did, it was built29 years after the Golden Gate in San Francisco and no wonder it looks alike, because the same company was in charge of building both of them!
Отдельно расскажу про то, как объесться в Португалии и не лопнуть еду, особенно тем, кто не следит за мной в инстаграме. В первую очередь полезно знать, что в Португалии, когда вы садитесь есть в кафе или ресторане, на стол сразу подают аперетив, несколько блюд, например, хлеб, маслины, мидии, сыр, колбасу, джем и т.д. Никто в ресторанах об этом не предупреждает, но закуски эти все платные и в стоимость не входят. Если вы не хотите платить лишние почти 10 евро и есть их, то просто отодвиньте аккуратно в сторону и не трогайте, тогда их унесут и в счет не занесут.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Another thing I wanted to mention is, of course, the food haha especially for those who don´t follow me on instagram. First of all, it´s useful to know that in Portugal when you are about to start your meal and sit at the table, waiters bring you some appetizers like olives, bread, cheese, sausage, mussels, jam, etc. Nobody will probably tell you that at the restaurant, but none of them are included in the price. So if you don´t want another 10 euros or so on top of your check, just leave them aside and don´t touch them and you´ll see that your waiter will soon take them away and will not include it in the price of your meal.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And secondly, I want to recommend you some amazing places to eat at that we came across. Without any doubt, if you're in Lisbon you can't miss out and not try pasteis de Belem or pasteis de nata, Portuguese egg tart pastry, tender on the inside and crispy on the outside.  The oldest and the first place to make them is situated in Belem neighborhood at the "Pastéis de Belém" confectionary right by the Jerónimos Monastery. For the record, precisely the monks of the Jerónimos Monastery developed the recipe of this sweet pastry and then authorized that very confectionery (which at that moment was still just a plant) to produce it.
Besides, we tried a very tasty ice-cream at Santini, you can look it up if you´re interested but it´s almost right beside the Santa Justa elevator. I got one with raspberry and tangerine and was so astonished! It tasted so natural! Don´t know if it actually means that the ingredients are as well but it tasted superb! I remembered our summers in the countryside when we were little and in July we used to make raspberry mousse and this ice cream tasted so much alike... :)
One more recommendation is a marvelous restaurant Queijadas de Belém situated almost right in front of Pastéis de Belém, they make great grilled fish and meat (and of course their traditional sweet queijadas) and the prices please the eye. The best place that we ate at during the whole trip!
Вот в таких машинках тоже можно прокатиться во завитым улочкам Лиссабона, устроив себе персональный тур с местным водителем.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And these cute cars are available for rent so you can organize yourself a cozy little trip throughout the city with a local driver.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And of course we also found time to go to the oldest café in Lisbon which opened (just imagine) in 1905! Its interior is so vintage, you´ll see marble, mirrors and wood everywhere. In front of the café there´s a monument to the Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa who loved to visit this place.
Ну и конечно же, немного красот баррио Альфама. Ведь правда, невероятный шарм у этого города?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Some beauties from the Alfama neighborhood. This city has such a charm, doesn't it?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The second day that we spent in Lisbon (my b-day) was all about me the Belem neighborhood. We ate some delicious food that I told you about before, climbed the Belem Tower (which was built in the 16th century in honor of Vasco da Gama´s discovery of the route to India. It was used as a defensive fortress, gunpowder storage, jail and customs office), we also walked around the Jeronimos Monastery and the Monument to the Discoveries.
Что касается одежки, конечно, для такого путешествия я выбрала все самое удобное и в небольшом количестве. Новые кроссовки New Balance сослужили мне просто прекрасную службу, и вообще я в них влюбилась! Давно не носила ничего более удобного. Ну и самые комфортные джинсы, куртка в которой не жарко и не холодно, и майки и рубашки на смену.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And to end the post a little bit about clothes:) Of course, for such a trip I chose the most comfortable pieces and not many of them, so I could be able to mix them and not to carry a lot of weight around. My new "New Balance" sneakers were such a great thing to wear throughout the trip, I don´t remember wearing anything more comfy in a lot of time! (I fell in love with them, to tell the truth;)  And the most comfortable jeans, jacket that wouldn't make me feel too hot nor too cold and some shirts and t-shirts.

  sneakers - new balance; shirt, jeggins and jacket - zara; bag - misako

Thank you so much for reading! Hope you enjoyed it!
